The Coolray subcompact crossover has been a resounding sales success for Chinese automaker Geely in our market. Aside from the car’s incredible array of high-tech gadgets, the brand’s preselling activities certainly helped make the little sport-ute more enticing for potential customers.

And now, Geely’s official distributor in the country, Sojitz G Auto Philippines, is using the same sales strategy for the Coolray’s big brother, the Azkarra compact SUV, which is known as the Boyue Pro in China. It was initially reported that this model would be called Atlas in our territory. Buyers who pay a reservation fee of P10,000 get a P100,000 discount on the vehicle’s purchase price, as well as free comprehensive insurance for one year.

The interestingly named Azkarra comes in two variants: Premium 4×2 and Luxury 4×4. While they share the same 1.5-liter turbo gasoline engine found under the hood of the Coolray, the Luxury version gets some eco-friendly boost with what Geely calls the 48V Electric Motor Synergy system. The addition of the electric motor turns the Azkarra Luxury into a mild-hybrid vehicle.

The output figure for the Azkarra Premium is a respectable 175hp, while the Azkarra Luxury’s hybrid powertrain bumps that number up to 190hp. Geely Philippines’ newest model also promises that passengers will be treated to a more comfortable ride thanks to a more spacious cabin.

The Azkarra is following in the footsteps of the Coolray with its competitive prices:

  • Luxury 4×4 – P1,598,000
  • Premium 4×2 – P1,438,000

The preselling promo runs until April 24. Interested clients may check out the Azkarra at these venues:

  • Uptown Mall (Taguig) – March 9 to 15
  • TriNoma (Quezon City) – March 16 to 31
  • SM Mall of Asia (Pasay) – March 19 to 31

Happy car-shopping.
