Filipino teenager shines in 2-stroke world motocross championship

From Taytay, Rizal, to the world stage

In an impressive display of determination, 13-year-old Joshua Tamayo from Taytay, Rizal, has emerged victorious in the Amateur 85cc Class at the 2025 Wiseco 2-Stroke World Motocross Championship. The event, held at the renowned Glen Helen Raceway, saw Tamayo compete against top riders from around the world.

Tamayo, riding his 2023 GasGas MC 85cc, pulled off a remarkable performance, leading every lap in the first motocross race and working his way to the lead in the second one to secure a perfect 1-1 finish.

The young racer shared: “I want to thank the Lord Jesus Christ for keeping me safe. I can’t believe I did it.”

He also shared that he felt confident about his chances after having raced in the Glen Spring Series the previous weekend.

Tamayo is part of Team MxMessiah, which is supported by several prominent brands, including Dans, Synermaxx Corporation, Tatakan, Shell Advance, and Factory Connection Suspension.
