Lancia is currently testing a Rally2 version of the Ypsilon HF

Bringing back the ‘Integrale’ name in the process

Last year, Lancia announced its return to rallying with the Ypsilon in the Rally4 category. Since its first outing last April, the little hatchback has been registered by 40 teams and competed in 51 national-level events across Europe. However, the Italian brand isn’t stopping there, as it may have its sights set on top-level series, including the World Rally Championship.

The Ypsilon Rally2 HF Integrale will be the crowning competitor within the Stellantis umbrella, as the homologation for the Citroen C3 will expire by the end of 2025. While Lancia officially broke the news recently, rally fans were already treated to spy shots of its testing session a week prior.

Despite its press release withholding any specifications, we expect it to carry a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine and a five-speed sequential manual transmission like its other Rally2 brethren (including the Toyota GR Yaris).

Rally2 cars are eligible to race in national, regional, and continental championships like the European Rally Championship and WRC2. Interestingly, this news comes nine months after the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile announced the 2027 regulations for the sport, where both WRC27 (the replacement for Rally1) and Rally2 would share engines and parts.

If the stars align, maybe this could be Lancia’s shot at returning to the top level of rallying since 1992. Would you love to see the manufacturer add more wins under its record-breaking belt?
