Behind every product is an idea that the brand envisions for its customers. MG Philippines has just launched the HS Hybrid+ with the promise of “living a five-star life.” Considering that the car is a compact crossover, it’s no surprise that the model is positioned as a premium offering.

The HS Hybrid+ measures 4,670mm long, 1,890mm wide, and 1,665mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,765mm. Compared to its smaller sibling (the subcompact ZS), the larger dimensions should afford a more spacious cabin that can carry up to five occupants.

The hybrid powertrain consists of a 1.5-liter turbo gasoline engine with 140.8hp and 230Nm of torque, and a 146kW (or 195.8hp) motor that’s powered by a 1.83kWh battery. The maximum combined output is 165kW (221.3hp) and 340Nm of torque.
A two-speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission is responsible for power distribution. Depending on the driving conditions, the car intelligently chooses when to use the combustion engine, the electric motor, or both.
This allows for a claimed fuel efficiency of 21.55km/L (based on AAP testing) and a maximum combined range of more than 1,000km. Take note, this is a hybrid, not a plug-in hybrid, so there’s no need to charge it. However, you still get the benefit of number-coding exemption until 2030 as part of the EVIDA law.

As expected of a five-star model, you get all the bells and whistles with the HS Hybrid+, such as power-adjustable front seats, a kick-sensor tailgate, a panoramic sunroof, and keyless-entry. MG is also proud of the car’s safety with its five-star ratings from Euro NCAP and ANCAP.

Connectivity is provided by a 12.3-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The HS Hybrid+ also features MG Pilot, which includes adaptive cruise control, various blind-spot detectors, lane-keep assist, emergency braking, and traffic-jam assist—the last one being perfect for the city.

The MG HS Hybrid+ is available in only one variant with five colors:
- Black Pearl
- Lunar Gray
- Pearl White
- Champagne Silver
- Diamond Red
How much does the whole package cost? It has an SRP of P1,398,888 with an introductory discount of P10,000.
You can check out the HS Hybrid+ along with MG’s other models at the brand’s display this weekend by the Bonifacio High Street Amphitheater.
Do you think this five-star car has a five-star chance of being a hit?
