Toyota Motor Philippines is recalling 28,828 units of its popular Raize subcompact SUV due to a glitch in the engine control unit (ECU). The recall—made public via the Department of Trade and Industry—affects models built between December 1, 2021, and July 15, 2024.

Owners can expect official notifications from TMP, after which they can visit dealerships for a free ECU reprogramming to fix the issue. According to TMP, the problem stems from faulty ECU programming that could impact braking performance under certain conditions—particularly in high-altitude areas with frequent braking. In such cases, the brake booster may not maintain suction pressure as designed, potentially making the brake pedal harder to press and increasing stopping distance.

The Raize has been a massive hit on our shores since its launch in February 2022, thanks to its compact size and smooth ride. It’s slightly smaller than the Vios in length and width but stands taller, which has helped to make it a go-to choice for buyers looking for an affordable yet stylish small SUV.
