Automaker inspires Guy Fieri in his latest culinary creation

There are combinations of sweet and savory foods that work. Many of us have dipped French fries in vanilla ice cream and found the mix quite tasty. Or you probably enjoy having salted caramel on anything from iced coffee to cheesecake. But have you ever imagined putting together an apple pie and a hot dog? Chevrolet and Guy Fieri think that the weird pairing is a match made in heaven.

Fieri is an American restaurateur and TV presenter. He’s the very energetic host who drives a red Camaro convertible on the Food Network show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. A Chevy guy himself, Fieri says that the inspiration for the dish—called Apple Pie Hot Dog—is a 1975 advertisement by the automaker, which says that “baseball, hot dogs, apple pie and Chevrolet go together in the good old USA.”

It doesn't look appetizing but it is certainly interesting. PHOTO FROM CHEVROLET

Now, we’re not culinary geniuses, and we have faith that Fieri knows what he’s doing. It’s just that apple-pie filling is very sweet, so the hot dog must have a savory kick to punch through the richness of the stuffing. Anyway, if you want to have a taste of the Apple Pie Hot Dog, the dish will be served exclusively at the August 12 Major League game in Iowa. Or you could just follow the recipe:
