Last year, SMC Asia Car Distributors Corporation, the official distributor of BMW in the Philippines, introduced the brand-new 2-Series Coupe to our market. It only came in one variant: the 220i M Sport.

For those who wanted more 2er variants, your prayers have been answered as two more have been added: the new entry-level 218i M Sport and the top-of-the-line M240i xDrive.

For the 218i M Sport, you get mostly the same options as the 220i—down to the M Aerodynamic Package that comes with the M High Gloss Shadow Line (black trim) and the 18-inch M wheels. It also gains the M Sport Suspension, sport seats upholstered in Alcantara and Sensatec leather, and aluminum anthracite M interior trim.

New to the 218i is the reduced output of the 2.0-liter in-line-four B48 engine. It’s now worth 156hp and 250Nm—down from 184hp and 300Nm—but is still mated to the same eight-speed transmission.

The 2ers also receive the BMW Curved Display running OS 8, so you now get a 12.3-inch digital instrument binnacle and a 14.9-inch widescreen infotainment screen instead of the 10.25-inch infotainment (iDrive 7) found on last year’s 220i.

As for the top dog, the M240i xDrive is as close as we can get to the face-melting M2 for now.

The biggest change is the legendary 3.0-liter in-line-six under the hood, the B58. Mated to an eight-speed automatic, it sends 374hp and 500Nm to all four wheels, so you can hit 100km/h in 4.3 seconds. It also gains the Adaptive M Suspension, M Sport Brakes, and M Sport Differential, allowing you to push the vehicle even further in the corners.

As for the inside, the interior has Vernasca leather upholstery that can either be optioned in Tacora Red, Black or Oyster.

The 218i M Sport is priced at P3.59 million, while the M240i xDrive will cost you P4.89 million. Both come with a comprehensive five-year warranty.
