Suzuki Philippines is no stranger to the business sector, selling the Carry and the APV over the years to serve big and small enterprises. For this year’s Philippine Commercial Vehicle Show, the Japanese brand showcased its current and future workhorses for the local market, even previewing a soon-to-be-released model.
The Carry has been on sale since 2019, carrying a dropside, utility, or cargo bed for every commercial need. Suzuki unveiled a new variant specifically made for the PUV Class 1 regulations, most likely a punch at the Toyota Liteace. This version appears similar to the utility van, but is now fitted with a right-hand side door.
Also highlighted was the Ertiga Hybrid as the first local initiative for an electrified taxi service. The mild-hybrid MPV in GA trim could fit in any cab fleet with its 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine mated to a 12V electric motor and six-speed manual transmission.
While both models are derived from existing models in the lineup, a peculiar microvan appeared on Suzuki’s show floor that had yet to be launched locally. The Eeco makes a surprise Philippine debut, and it wasn’t included in the official press release.
The pint-sized van is based on the Japanese-spec Every Plus produced from 1999 to 2005, still being built by Maruti Suzuki with a newer 1.2-liter four-cylinder engine producing 80hp and 104Nm.
The closed-panel variant was the star of the booth. It also comes in windowed five- or seven-seater version.
There’s no word yet from Suzuki Philippines when the Carry PUV and the Ertiga Hybrid taxi will be released to fleet services, nor when the Eeco will officially be launched in the market. Nevertheless, it’s exciting to see the brand offering a promising commercial lineup in the not-too-distant future.
