Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) general manager Nicolas Torre III made headlines when he was featured bike-commuting. Turns out active transport is an advocacy he is serious about, as seen with the new shower facilities at the MMDA Motorcycle Riding Academy.
Torre believes that active transport is important because it makes people healthier, reduces traffic congestion, and helps the environment. However, one of the biggest challenges is the lack of end-of-trip facilities.
This issue isn’t limited to cyclists for it also applies to anyone who walks under the sun. Through the installation of these shower rooms, he wants to lead by example and encourage more Filipinos to embrace active mobility.

“Active mobility is not just about bike lanes,” said Torre. “It is about creating an ecosystem that makes walking and cycling practical, dignified, and sustainable for everyday workers.”
The MMDA Motorcycle Riding Academy is located at Julia Vargas corner Meralco Avenue in Pasig. If you happen to work in the nearby Ortigas CBD, you can use the facilities for free.
