It’s one thing to import electric vehicles; it’s another to produce them locally. Mitsubishi Motors Corporation has announced that it will be joining the Philippine government’s Electric Vehicle Incentive Strategy (EVIS) program.

This was announced during a meeting between MMC CEO Takao Kato and Philippine president Bongbong Marcos. Should the application be approved, Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) will begin manufacturing a new model of hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) by the middle of 2028.

The plant in Santa Rosa, Laguna, spans around 21.4 hectares with a production capacity of 50,000 units per year, including such models as the Mirage, the Mirage G4, and the L300. MMPC will be investing further to ensure that the facility is capable of manufacturing HEVs. Not only will this expand the local supply chain, but it will also generate more employment opportunities for Filipinos.

“The Philippines has long been one of our most important markets, where we have engaged in production and sales for many years,” said Kato. “In cooperation with the Philippine government, we are honored to contribute to the advancement of vehicle electrification and industrial development through the EVIS program, as well as to support the further growth of the Philippine economy.”

Which hybrid model do you think MMPC will be manufacturing?
