Only launched last September, the hybrid BAIC B30e Dune is turning out to be a hot seller for United Asia Automotive Group Inc. All 120 units were sold out in just the first two months, which could foreshadow strong sales in the coming months despite having to compete in a very crowded segment.

The B30e Dune is a hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) SUV with a range of up to 1,000km on a single tank of gas, relying on a 1.5-liter gasoline engine to not only work in parallel but also act as a range extender for its electric motor/s. The 329hp 4×2 variant relies on a single motor, while the 403hp 4×4 uses two.

Size-wise, the B30e Dune’s wheelbase is longer than stalwarts like the ladder-frame-chassis Toyota Fortuner and Mitsubishi Montero Sport, but overall length is shorter for the monocoque B30e Dune. With several drive modes and good approach and departure angles, the BAIC can take on light trails with ease, while its interior boasts a 14.6-inch touchscreen and minimal physical switchgear.

Accessorized 4x4 Vanguard and 4x2 Tourer editions are also available. PHOTO FROM BAIC

If you missed out on the first batch, worry not because a new one has just arrived. Introductory prices are P1,488,000 for the 4×2, and P1,788,000 for the 4×4. Accessorized editions called the B30e Dune Tourer 4×2 and B30e Dune Vanguard 4×4 are also available at BAIC dealerships nationwide.
