The electrified crossover will be out by June

At last year’s Manila International Auto Show, a futuristic crossover showed up at the GAC booth, and it turned out to be the Emkoo. Fast-forward to 2024, the Chinese brand has debuted a new variant of the spaceship on wheels, now powered by a hybrid engine.

The Emkoo Hybrid is the first hybrid-powered GAC model in the country. Made in collaboration with Toyota, it carries a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engine (138hp and 180Nm) paired with a 2.1kWh battery pack producing 180hp and 300Nm for a total output of 318hp.

Out goes the dual-clutch transmission for a two-speed dedicated hybrid transmission. GAC claims that it could achieve 22.1km/L, which anyone can do every day of the week since the Emkoo Hybrid is exempted from number-coding under the EVIDA incentives.

The Emkoo Hybrid keeps the sharp diagonal aesthetics, the interior features, and the ADAS technology from the ICE version. The latter still includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning, and auto emergency braking.

The new Emkoo Hybrid will commence sales in June this year, while a closer look at its trim levels and their prices will be announced not long before the launch. Are you enticed to grab this sci-fi-looking SUV now that it is electrified?
