In a time when Filipinos are in dire need of green spaces, the Marikina LGU has just held a ground-breaking ceremony for an active-transport park.
The facility will be located in Barangay Marikina Heights, and it will have an area of 1,000sq-m for skateboarders and BMX riders, pets, outdoor exercises, community gatherings, and food stalls. There will also be end-of-trip facilities, where commuters can take a shower.

Present at the ceremony were Mayor Maan Teodoro, Department of Transportation secretary Banoy Lopez, DOTr undersecretary for road transport and infrastructure Mark Steven Pastor, and Marikina-based cycling group Happy Pedal Project.
In a Facebook post, Teodoro said that Marikina is proud of its culture, recognizing the importance of open spaces in the city. After all, an active community is a happy one. The best part: It emphasized that no tree-cutting will be performed.
