Sergio Perez departs from Red Bull F1 team

The Mexican won’t be on the grid for 2025

Red Bull has just announced that Sergio Perez will leave the team following the end of this year’s Formula 1 season.

The Mexican driver joined Red Bull in 2021, and assisted Max Verstappen in securing his first drivers’ title at Abu Dhabi. In the following two seasons, Checo contributed to Red Bull’s consecutive constructors’ titles. The team was even able to achieve its first 1-2 finish in the driver’s standings in 2023.

However, the recently concluded season was his worst one so far. His performance slump not only dropped him to P8 in the drivers’ championship, but it also cost Red Bull the constructors’ title. As much as Red Bull wanted its partnership with Perez to work, he couldn’t deliver the results.

Now that the second Red Bull seat is now open for 2025, it seems likely that Liam Lawson will be promoted to the main team.
