After the successful launch of the impressive CFMoto 450SR, which we declared a worthy contender for the entry-level sport bike market, here’s an even more significant entry: the newly launched 450NK (for “naked,” we suppose).
Aside from using the same 449cc parallel-twin that generates 47hp and 39Nm, it also has a 270° crankshaft for a pleasing delivery of low-end torque and a characterful burble. Just like with the 450SR, it has a six-speed transmission with a slipper clutch. There’s no quickshifter, but our experience with the 450SR showed that the gearbox shifts quickly and cleanly and is a joy to rev-match.
A lightweight cro-moly frame and less bodywork than its sport-bike sibling contribute to a svelte 165kg (dry) curb weight, 3kg lighter than the SR. It’s fitted with a nonadjustable USD fork and central rear shock aside from the usual preload, and the cast alloy wheels are shod with CST CM-S1 tires (110/70 front and 150/60 rear). The brakes are J.Juan, and with ABS (naturally).
All-LED lighting and a 4.5-inch TFT dash spruce up the bike, and there’s even smartphone connectivity for handling calls as well as real-time data using the CFMoto Ride app. Ground clearance of 192mm and a seat height of 795mm make it accessible for many riders who aren’t blessed with long inseams, too. The tank holds 14L of 95-octane fuel or higher.
Best of all is the price: just P262,800 for now. With plenty of entry-level big bikes in the P250,000-P350,000 price bracket like the KTM 390 Duke, the Husqvarna Svartpilen/Vitpilen 401, the Royal Enfield Scram 411, and the Kawasaki Z400, the 400NK has both that “new bike” advantage plus a very compelling price tag.
Three colors are currently available: Nebula Black, Zephyr Blue, and Nebula White. Looks like Motostrada has another winner in its CFMoto lineup.
